Repair of Xbox 360 - Blame Microsoft

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

Microsoft has been sued for violation of consumer protection laws for continuing to sell the Xbox 360 despite being aware the hardware is (allegedly) likely to suffer the Red Rings of Death and fail. "Microsoft cannot deny that the console has a problem, after all it has extended the warranty on all units to cover the general hardware failure indicated by those three flashing red lights for a full three years.”

One thing that Microsoft will not do, however, is come clean with the exact size of the problem, although some analysts estimate this to possibly be as high as 15 percent. New upgrade for xbox 360 Arcade

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

It has been confirmed, the xbox 360 will be subject to an internal memory upgrade to 256MB in order to run the new xbox live experience. Anyone who currently owns the new xbox 360 Arcade console will know that it requires 256MB worth of memory in order to run, if you don't have the sufficient amount of internal memory you will not be able to run it.

Fortunately, the new upgrade costs nothing except for the fact that you must buy an entirely new console. If you dont want to spend the money on a new console you can purchase an external memory unit in order to run the xbox live feature. Microsoft was at least good enough to confirm the rumour on several computer game website, "We are always upgrading the consoles more that 1700 internal components. We can confirm that we're moving to internal memory for the xbox 360 arcade. The physical internal memory is the same size as the previous external memory units - 256MB".

Obviously this does seriously affect the flexibility of the xbox 360 as it will take more power to use the xbox live feature. Demos and saved games are not transferrable on the xbox 360. However it is more of a solid solution from the xbox team to solve the recurrent issue of the arcade model of the xbox not being powerful enough to power up several games. It is so frustrating when a game skips and frame rates are very slow. This is down to the fact that the xbox is not powerful enough to run it.

However this is not the first problem that I have personally encountered with the xbox 360. Only last week I received the infamous 'red lights of death' on the front of my xbox 360 which meant the end for that machine. The hardware is completely gone once you see those red lights and I had to return it to the shop.
